Why Attend?

As a member who works at a community college, it is important for me to attend the National Conference to be a voice for others that serve students that attend community college or transfer. Whether this is to co-present on a topic that is relevant for these populations or to meet with others at the Community College/Transfer Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting. Sharing our experiences and best practices is motivating to do better for our students.

The national conference is the one time, each year, where I get to see my current network of high school counselors and admission teams from across the country, as well as network with new high school counselors and admission teams. The biggest benefits of attending are networking, gaining cutting edge industry information and having fun! The conference social is one of my most favorite parts of the conference. You get to experience a unique part/place of the city where the conference is being held and there’s a variety of activities that allow you to have fun, build and strengthen relationships with people who care about the same thing as you – higher ed and students being successful in college.

Until five years ago I had never heard of NACAC. When I began my new role, I reached out to a couple of the college counsellors in the Vancouver area. They told me about NACAC. I became a member and attended my first NACAC conference in Toronto… and I have attended each year since. That first conference was overwhelming, but the learning opportunities at NACAC have been invaluable to my work. I can’t wait to be in Boston for my fifth conference.
