Why Attend?

Until five years ago I had never heard of NACAC. When I began my new role, I reached out to a couple of the college counsellors in the Vancouver area. They told me about NACAC. I became a member and attended my first NACAC conference in Toronto… and I have attended each year since. That first conference was overwhelming, but the learning opportunities at NACAC have been invaluable to my work. I can’t wait to be in Boston for my fifth conference.

When I was beginning in the field, I gained exposure to the many facets of the admissions field that I would not have been able to experience at “solely” the institution I was then serving. Over time, the field has evolved in a way that admissions professionals need to be able to operate in our daily tasks with varied lenses and the NACAC National Conferences provide a relevant and comprehensive way to attain the most current happenings in not only enrollment management, but K-12, consulting, counseling, activism & advocacy, vendors and more! As my roles have also progressed, access to these resources, and more importantly, making personal connections with colleagues and counterparts is extremely valuable.

As a member who works at a community college, it is important for me to attend the National Conference to be a voice for others that serve students that attend community college or transfer. Whether this is to co-present on a topic that is relevant for these populations or to meet with others at the Community College/Transfer Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting. Sharing our experiences and best practices is motivating to do better for our students.
